Sarah Silverman for Obama – The Great Schlep

The convergence of our economic woes and the presidential election is producing some of the most creative and entertaining soundbites from those in the public eye.  Sarah Silverman, always hilarious, campaigns here to help get out the bubby vote in Florida.  She’s also the spokesperson for an impressive grassroots campaign called The Great Schlep to influence the Florida vote.

I really got impressed by Obama.. He is one who brought light in the dark lives of people.. So i guess there is no need for asking any support as people are already with him..
  • Glad Florida supported Obama. It was thought to be crucial but the landslide victory was kind of shocking.

Hey, I love Sarah! In her hilarious video urging young Jews for Obama to work on their grandparents, though, she says that Baruch means "lightning." It doesn't. It means "blessed." If you don't believe me, check out this wonderful article by David Scheim in the Washington Post (August 28):

It's well researched, with enough stuff about Obama's name to impress grandparents of other faiths as well!
  • Interesting article. Thanks for the suggestion.

Barak does mean lightning in Hebrew, as this article points out though.
Baruch means blessed. I actually think Barak is a closer pronunciation, so
disagree with the author on that point, but more importantly, both are
strong and positive symbols, befitting such a leader.
